Home EV Charger Installation
Charging your electric car at home is one of the most convenient ways to manage everyday EV ownership.
A professionally installed dedicated EV charger allows you to plug your vehicle in when you return home and have it ready for your next journey.
Before installing a charger, we assess your property’s existing electrical installation and determine whether any additional electrical work is required.
Why an EV charger is right for you:
- Convenient charging from your own driveway
- Less dependence on public charging stations
- Charge your vehicle overnight
- Smart charging options
- Dedicated circuit for your EV charger
- Installation suited to your property and vehicle
- Potential integration with solar PV
- Professional testing and certification
For homeowners with solar PV, EV charging can also potentially be incorporated into your wider home energy system, helping you make greater use of electricity generated at your property.
Commercial & Workplace EV Charging
EV charging is becoming an increasingly important consideration for businesses.
Installing chargers can provide facilities for employees, company vehicles, visitors and customers while helping businesses prepare their premises for the continued transition towards electric transport.
Sonny Vaughan Electrical installs workplace EV charging systems for businesses, offices, hospitality venues, farms, schools, universities and other organisations throughout Mid Wales.
What this gives your business:
- Charging facilities for employees & visitors
- Support for electric company vehicles and fleets
- Multiple charger installations
- Three-phase charging solutions where appropriate
- Smart charging and load management options
- Future-ready electrical infrastructure
- Professional testing and commissioning
For larger installations, we can assess the available electrical capacity and help determine the most practical way to introduce EV charging without unnecessarily overloading the existing electrical infrastructure.
OZEV EV Charger Grants
OZEV EV Charger Grants
The UK Government has launched its Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OLEV) grant scheme to help eligible homeowners, landlords, businesses and organisations cover the upfront cost of EV charger installations.
From 1 April 2026, the maximum grant available under several OZEV schemes increased from £350 to £500 per eligible charging socket.
Eligibility depends on the type of property and applicant, so not every homeowner or business will automatically qualify.
Alongside the OZEV scheme, there are grants available for landlords, businesses and public organisations.
Landlords could be eligible for grants of up to 200 sockets per year, while 40 charging sockets across their sites under the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS).
How Do I Claim an OZEV or WCS Grant?
OZEV grants have specific eligibility requirements and application procedures.
Grants should be applied for before the charger is installed. Installing a chargepoint before applying or receiving confirmation of eligibility can invalidate a subsequent grant application.
The installation must also use an eligible charging unit and an OZEV-authorised installer where required under the relevant scheme.
Sonny Vaughan Electrical is proudly an OZEV-authorised installer and can help you through every step of the application process. If you think you may qualify for funding, speak to us before arranging the installation so the relevant grant requirements can be considered.

Frequently Asked Questions
The cost of an EV charger installation varies depending on the charger chosen, the distance between your distribution board and the charger, the cable route and whether any electrical upgrades are required.
We can assess your property and provide an estimate based on the installation required.
Many homes can accommodate an EV charger, but the electrical installation should first be assessed.
We check factors such as your electrical supply, distribution board, available capacity, charger position and proposed cable route before recommending an installation.
No, not always. Many domestic EV chargers are designed to operate from a standard single-phase electricity supply.
Three-phase supplies can provide additional charging options and are more commonly encountered in commercial, agricultural and larger electrical installations.
We can assess your supply and advise on the most appropriate option.
Yes, but it may depend on the charger make and model. Certain EV chargers can work alongside compatible solar PV systems, allowing electricity generated by your panels to contribute towards charging your vehicle.
The amount available will depend on your solar generation, household electricity demand and the equipment installed.
The scheme is now administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) rather than OLEV.
There are currently grants available for certain renters, flat owners, landlords, businesses and public-sector organisations, subject to eligibility criteria. From April 2026, several schemes provide support of up to £500 per eligible charging socket, while eligible state-funded education institutions can receive up to £2,000 per socket.
Yes. We install workplace and commercial EV chargers for businesses throughout Aberystwyth, Ceredigion and Mid Wales.
This can range from a single charger for a company vehicle through to multiple chargers for employees, fleets or visitors.
